My animation is inspired by “A Wall in Naples” by Thomas Jones (c.1782). Despite its small size this oil sketch on paper is revolutionary, because it doesn’t represent a classical conventional landscape. On a recent visit to Naples I was astonished by the similarities between the contemporary city views and this historical painting. This urban landscape with traces of human existence, the strong Mediterranean light and blue sky formed the visual starting point of my animation.
The film examines the relationship between the first and third generations, evoking memories and a feeling of timelessness and eternality. The story evolves behind the “Wall”, in the courtyard of a Greek household in traditional island scenery. It pays tribute to artists and people who produce timeless works of art and inspire future generations.
